How to get help

The majority of our referrals come via the Family Support Panel for professionals. The link for professionals and families who want to self referred are below.

 Our Support

We support families who have a child under the age of 5 years.

After we receive a referral we initially telephone a family and arrange a face-to-face home-visits with one of our coordinators. This will determine whether a family needs a volunteer, group support or a combination of both, tailored to the individual families needs.

If a family is needing a more rapid approach we have a family support worker providing a more intense service. We also train social work students throughout the year who also support families in this way.

We offer weekly group sessions to supported families, drop-in and walking groups are also available for families from initial contact throughout the Falkirk area.

We’ll continue to share useful information for you and your children in our social media channels. You can follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

We will update our website and social media should the situation change and, should further action be required, we will communicate directly with families, our volunteers and partners. Thank you for your support.

Home-Start Falkirk Professional Referral Form

We no longer accept individual professional referrals to our service,  instead referrals must be via the Family Support Panel. The panel was formed in July 2024 with our partners at Aberlour, Falkirk Family Support Service and One Parent Families Scotland. The aim of the panel is to help families be supported by the best service placed to meet their needs. The panel meets to discuss referrals every second Friday. As this is a change to our process we would appreciate if referrers can ensure they discuss this with any families to help them understand this change.

Professional Referrals

1

We are not a statutory service. We work only on the basis of permission, which means our support is designed with families and works at the pace and on the issues which we jointly agree.

2

The support we offer is as individual as families themselves. Our service is completely confidential and we respect the circumstances of each family without judgment.

3

Most of our support happens within the family home and we respect the very privileged position we are in by being in what is sometimes the most private and safest space for many.

4

We do not accept referrals without the permission of each family, who also have the right to end support at any time. That said, much of our support work can also be integrated into child or family support plans designed by others.

Self-referrals

1

Home-Start Falkirk welcomes self-referrals from parents, family members, and friends of the family (but please make sure you have guaranteed permission from the family first).

2

Most of our support happens within the family home and we respect the very privileged position we are in by being in what is sometimes the most private and safest space for many.

3

Before support is offered, first an initial visit must be carried out by one of our Family Coordinators, who will have a friendly chat with the family to identify the best way we can help.

4

We work closely with colleagues in Health, Social Care and Education, however we never share information about our support without your permission. Our service is most effective when based on trusted relationships.
